The World Famous,
Three Sisters Springs Wildlife Refuge
is one of Crystal River's crown jewels. Three Sisters Springs is a paradise for both manatees and people. Three Sisters Springs Wildlife Refuge is part of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge and the King's Bay Manatee Refuge.
Between the months of November and April, Kings Bay is home to the Largest population of Manatees in a Natural Environment in The World. Visitors to Three Sisters Springs can Swim with Manatees. However, these animals are protected and therefore have very strict regulations regarding your behavior when swimming with manatees. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services have produced a series of videos detailing the proper behavior when swimming or snorkeling with manatees entitled "Manatee Manners." There are separate videos for Swimmers, Paddlers, and Photographers.
